Coupon Series: Basics

The Basics:

Coupons can only be used one time: This means that if you have 5 items that are the same and 1 coupon that matches this item, you will only be able to use that 1 coupon for 1 item. Not 1 coupon for 5 items. You will not get a discount for 5 items.

Copying coupons are illegal: It is illegal to make a photocopy of a coupon and use it. This is clearly stated at the bottom of the coupon. People who copy coupons ruin it for the rest of us honest couponers. This is a service provided by a company and we are abusing it by copying, which could result in a halt of all coupons.

You can use coupons on sale itemsIf an item is clearance or discounted you are allowed to use a coupon for that item. This usually makes for a GREAT price!   Know that while you are couponing, you may find that some cashiers/employees aren’t very educated when it comes to coupons hence they will probably reject your coupons. Be brave! If you know that you are doing the right thing and the cashier is just not familiar with coupons, talk to a manager or supervisor.

In order to get the maximum savings out of a coupon read the wording on the coupon, instead of going by the picture. More often than not there is a picture of a certain product on a coupon but the verbiage of the coupon states “ANY” which means that you do not have buy the item pictured.

Coupon policies vary from store-store. Make sure you read your favorite stores coupon policy. You can often get one from the store itself or online.

Sometimes there are limits to a coupon. Many times a coupon states that you may only use one coupon per purchase per item, meaning sometimes you may not be able to use 2 of the same coupon on 2 of the same product. This is defiently different for every cashier. Some cashiers don’t read and study coupons, while others may.
