Here is the NEW policy from my Rite Aid Rep:
This will be effective TODAY (5/25) Here are some changes that I see:
:: You can no longer use BOGO coupons on BOGO sales, but you CAN use (1) cents off coupons for each item that you are purchasing. (ie, only one coupon on a BOGO sale)
:: limit 4 identical coupons per transaction.
:: You CAN use multplie UP rewards when paying for an item (I know lots of you had issues with being told that you could only use one per transaction)

So what do you guys think? Does this change your perception of Rite Aid? Will it be more difficult to shop there?

My Name is Josie and I live in sunny Southern California and I am a stay at home mom to three beautiful boys. We all know that living in California is a task of it's own and saving in California IS possible! I started this blog mainly to share all the awesome deals out there and show others how to save in any area of life. Even though you may make the commitment to be frugal and pinch your pennies doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice!

I’m not going to say that I will no longer shop there, but this new coupon policy is definitely going to cramp my style a bit. Being able to use bogo coupons for a bogo sale or two coupons on a bogo sale was one of the really great things about Rite Aid. Corporate “coupon haters’….
I have to agree with Mona, I will probably still shop there too but not nearly as much.
That’s lame, now it really is personal Rite-Aid.
Honestly, been considering not shopping there before this. The CVS in my area has become increasingly less and less coupon friendly. This shift took place before TLC’s Extreme coupon show slowly, but since lots of coupon policy changes by managers at most of the local stores in my area since. Looks like my family may be switching from focusing on coupons to Amazon deals and making things from scratch.
@Mona – Agreed!
Lame.
I hate to admit that I’m having better luck with Walmart these days. Who woulda thunk it!?
Hmmm… definitely changes the game, but I think there will still be good deals to be found. Thanks for the info Josie.
That’s a bummer! Yet, they still do have some great stuff so I’ll definitely keep shopping there.
I think because of he Extreme Couponing show everybody has been changing their coupon policy or questioning the coupons we use. I just got a phone call from my local Walgreens and they said I can no longer use a Walgreens Instant Value coupon (from their in store book) with a Manufacturer’s coupon. They said that this policy just changed last week. I already have enough problems with Walgreens deals.
yeah walgreens sucks they make it to impossible to use your coupons plus the RR ugh
ditto about Walgreen’s — I’ve decided to shop there minimally (only if necessary)
NOT hapy about the BOGO!!!!!
I think the best way to deal with these new problems is , every couponer should just boycott couponing all together for a couple months. Stop subscribing to or buying sunday papers, not buy anything from a big corporate store with a coupon. Everyone see how long we can live off our stockpiles until they get the message ” we’re mad as HELL ! AND WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE. That will teach them. And I want the monthly food rewards back also
Wow… that’s disappointing. I went to Wal-Mart today and the cashier offered the information that they accept competitor’s coupons. Between that and the price matching, I may have to become one of those “people of Wal-Mart”! ;o)
Thank you for the heads up on this and for the link to the printable policy; however annoying it may be.
wow, and WOW!! It’s confusing enough- I wish they would stop changing the game on us! Does this mean that if the store has a BOGOF sale, I can’t use a coupon on the free one?
I get the no more two free thing altho that was awesome!!
@Tosca –
I am lucky, my two local CVS’s are SUPER coupon and CVS rewards friendly to the point where the manager’s laugh when my transactions are complete. All they ask is that if i am doing multi-purchases that I wait in line for each as opposed to tying up a register for up to 25 minutes.
To me, that is fair since I am still not waiting very long but getting back a huge amount of stuff.
So does that mean you can’t use a coupon on the free item.
Aw well it’s a bummer about the BOGO free coupons but that’s life isn’t it? I get great deals at RA all the time without BOGO free deals so I’ll still be shopping there.
I was at RA today and the manager would only let me use 4 manufacture coupons in one transaction but in reading the policy she was wrong. It’s only 4 identical coupons. Now I have the policy in hand so I can show her what the policy really is.
Thanks so much Josie!!
@Connie – You can’t use Buy 1 get 1 free coupon on an item that is on sale at store for buy 1 get 1 free. You can’t get 2 items for free anymore.
This is all bc of that new show extreme couponing!!!!
Soo bummed!!! This is my suggestion……if you remember back at Christmas time they had the “gifts of savings” program where you could earn a $20 Up when you spend $100. Originally it started with your “after coupon total”…however after Rite Aid listened to their customers they changed it to “before coupon total” like it was the previous year.
) email expressing your disappointment in their new coupon policy. *Maybe even throw in that Walgreens {their competition} policy allows you to use a B1G1 coupon w/ a B1G1 sale, etc. Maybe if enough of us write, they will listen, & potentially change it back??? Under the contact section it does say “We are always interested in how we can serve you better.” It’s worth taking 5 mins out of your busy day, right? Keeping my fingers crossed!!!
***This makes me optimistic that *maybe* Rite Aid will listen to all of us if we express our dislikes in the new policy.
Personally I don’t see why Rite Aid is changing the B1G1 policy- the store is is paying for 1 item (the sale) & the manufaturer is paying for 1 item. Also the limitation to like coupons could be frustrating if there is a good sale.
I say we each send a nice (not nasty, who wants a nasty customer anyways?

Come on guys! Let’s tell them how we feel!
Unfortunately this does change my perception of RA. I always felt that RA (corporate included) appreciated & respected couponers. But now I lump them in with other stores who set up great deals by offering up store coupons & sales timed with manuf coupons, then wag their fingers & talk down to the people who are actually organized enough to do the deals. I have no problem with the 4 item limit, it’s just the limit on BOGO coupons that bothers me.
I’m pretty disappointed about the Bogo policy.
The limit of 4 like q’s is good for me since I never have that many anyway and I really don’t like it when people clear the shelves.
I sometimes get hard to work with cashiers at Rite Aid anyway so I worry that this will give them an excuse to be rude to coupon users.
I also think the “Extreme Couponing” show is really bad for us normal coupon users, because it’s making stores think we are all like that.
I am in agreement that the Extreme Couponing show has had an effect, but I am hearing from the cashiers that there have been problems with fraud. My local Rite Aid had let some cashiers go for not matching the product purchased with the coupons.
I have shopped less and less at Rite Aid and Walgreens because of their ever-changing coupon policies.
CVS has my loyalty forever – I can always count on their coupon and rain check friendly staff to get me in and out quickly and to honor all my valid coupons and match-ups.
We must let our voices be heard by “talking” with our “feet” – basically if you don’t like their policies, shop there less and less.
The Walgreen’s policy of no mfg with the IVC will stop me from shopping there unless the item is free.
Hi,
I was in Rite Aid today and they tried to tell me I could not use a coupon on a clearance item. I told them they are incorrect and that it did not say that anywhere. Truth is I wasn’t 100% sure. Do you have any idea? There is nothing in the policy that says you can or cannot.
Thanks!
This is definately not true. I have personally done it myself. I suggest calling corporate and let them know about the store you visit
i had the same situation when i tried to use the Prestige coupon on a 50% off eyeliner. the store manager who was manning the register told me i cannot use the coupon on a sale item and even told me that the eyeliner should not have been on sale in the first place (what was he thinking? that i placed the 50% off in it???) he became even more unfriendly when i gave him the playtex coupons i had ($4 and $2 off) saying he cannot give the item to me because the coupons’ value are more than the item being purchased, but he decided to give it to me when i asked about adjusting the coupon value saying that he will do it only once. well, we had another discussion when i found out later that he forgot to scan one of my coupons and i went back in line. when it was my turn, he was sarcastically smiling at me and said “oh, it’s you again”..that really pissed me off…and he knew he’d said something wrong so he was apologetic… i just wasn’t sure if he was sincere…but is that the way a “store manager” should treat a couponing customer like me? ooops…i think i’m getting far from the discussion…haha…just sharing
