Why I’m Ordering a Local Newspaper Subscription.

I know this is silly to post ..but I like sharing my thoughts with everyone. As much as I love the LA Times–I’ve decided to branch out of my comfort zone to see if I can get the Target inserts that LA Times does not get all the time.

For me, the extra paper is still worth it. The extra savings that I get with coupons–pays for my yearly cost on the paper itself. One of my LA Times Subscriptions is expiring this month so I will get 4 LA Times delivered and 1 Press Enterprise– which will keep me to my norm of 5 papers a week.

I know that a lot of you praise the OC Register (they usually get the awesome Target coupons) but I don’t live close enough. :( also, remember that the only real way to guarantee your inserts is a subscription. For me–being able to call the newspaper company to let them know that my paper didn’t get the coupons is great. I don’t risk hitting the newspaper stands and not being able to find a paper with coupons in it.

You can currently snag some great discounts on your local paper:

OC Register $12.00 per year (1 paper)

SD Tribune: 1 Sunday paper each week: 20 weeks for $20

Press Enterprise: 1 Sunday Paper: 52 weeks for $26

Sacramento Bee: 1 Sunday paper each week:  26 weeks for $19.99

Los Angeles Area News Papers1 Sunday Paper: 52 weeks for $26

:: Torrance Daily Breeze (South Bay area north to Santa Monica, but not Santa Monica)
:: Long Beach Press Telegram (Long Beach, Lakewood, everything north of OC line)
:: Los Angeles Daily News (San Fernando Valley and north Hollywood area)
:: Whittier Daily News
:: Pasadena Star-News

    Can you keep us posted on whether you get the Target coupons or not? My brother lives there, so even though I don’t live there, if I can get the Target coupons it’s worthwhile to have it sent to my bro and having them mailed to me in San Diego :)

    When I first started couponing, I began with one copy of LA Times. I took a class at the OC Register, and ordered 3 subscriptions. I didn’t get rid of LA Times (even though it was a bit pricy, started out $1 a week, reduced to 75¢ a week) because I liked that between the 2, I had most coupons! I only cancelled LA Times when the deal came around, and I got 2 new LA Times subscriptions at $10 each for the year. So what my long winded post is saying is: I completely understand wanting the 2 different papers!

    Do you know if the North County Times has a good deal on a Sunday subscription?

    I have not received any of the Target inserts in the Press Enterprise (Hemet/San Jacinto area). :( But every once in a while it contains some coupons that did not come in my LA Times.

    I found one online last year for $10 for 20 weeks. It goes way up after that, but you can prob negotiate something or find another code. @Shelly -

    When I was at Walgreens yesterday (Sunday morning), there was a guy from OC Register giving away free Sunday newspapers. I got one, but it only included ONE Smart Source. I live in Orange County and subscribe to LA Times and the LA times included TWO. By the way, the deal he was offering was $26 for Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun papers for 1 yr plus $5 GC for Walgreens.

    I’m doing the opposite, dropping the local to get one more times. The local never has as many coupons for me. The one smartsource I got yesterday did not come close to the amount in the 2 from the times.

    I agree with getting the local paper. I live in Murrieta and I get 4 la times and 2 enterprise because the pe has all the local papers to include the Walmart and target inserts. I do have to call them sometimes when I don’t get all my inserts which is quite frequently but hey at least they redeliver and I get them the same day. I do like having the la times though because they have coupons that pe doesn’t.

    I’ve been getting the Santa Clarita Signal and while every now and then they have a coupon that the LA Times doesn’t, they really don’t have many inserts. When I subscribed, I asked the circulation woman which inserts that received and was told it was all the same ones as the LA Times – well, they’ll get, say, half of the Red Plum or Smart Source, and P&G is 50/50. Once I can find a better deal elsewhere I’ll definitely be cancelling.
