Lately, I’ve been feeling unhealthy. I’ve feel like I am spiraling in a downward circle when it comes to my weight. I’ve developed “bloggers butt” and my eating habits have not been exactly what I want them to be. I thought exercise would help–it did to some extent but my body just didn’t seem to want to accept that. I still feel groggy in the mornings, I am still tired and I don’t feel like I am losing any weight.
After three kids–I am ready to reclaim my health back. Dealing with postpartum depression for over a year- I gained 50 pounds after my last child. I’m not going to lie–I’m not feeling as great as I know I should be.
A close friend recommended a documentary to watch: Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. In Summary, it is about a man who changed his life by going on a 60 day Juice Fast. Nothing but freshly juiced veggies in place of meals, for 2 months. This movie inspired me to start my own Cleanse–to Reboot My Life and start fresh!
I plan to challenge myself to do a 15 day Reboot. My meals will consist of only fresh veggies and fruits, Juiced for the next 15 days.
Why am I putting myself on blast? Because frankly, I have a hard time committing to these types of things. So-I plan to share my progress with everyone so that I can keep myself going and hopefully inspire the rest of you to try the same!
I encourage you to join me! Even if it is only a couple of days—no need to do 15, that was just a choice on my part. Here are a couple of tips to Juice Fasting:
- 1. It is highly suggested that Leafy greens are the way to go. Too much Fruit overload you with natural sugars
- 2. Drink Juice for every meal in between, if you feel hungry
- 3. Drink enough juice to make you full
- 4. Plan to drink at least (4) 16 oz glasses during the day
- 5. Expect to spend at least $30 every three days on veggies
I started my Cleanse last night. Dinner is always my favorite meal and I’m a little nervous going into this whole thing. I LOVE food–so I really miss the idea of chewing my food
Here is the recipe I started with last night:
1/2 pear
1/2 green apple
handful spinach
handful parsley
2 celery stalks
1/2 cucumber
small piece ginger
slice of papaya
I have to admit that it was very yummy! I thought it was going to be hard to take in at first but it wasn’t. The Ginger really took away a lot of the leafy taste.
This morning, I have replaced my coffee with Juice–and I’m feeling pretty good!
Have you ever done a Juice Cleanse? I would love for you to follow me on the next 15 days of my juice cleanse!
As always, Please know that I am not a Doctor, nor do I plan to be one. Make sure to consult your healthcare professional before deciding to join me!

My Name is Josie and I live in sunny Southern California and I am a stay at home mom to three beautiful boys. We all know that living in California is a task of it's own and saving in California IS possible! I started this blog mainly to share all the awesome deals out there and show others how to save in any area of life. Even though you may make the commitment to be frugal and pinch your pennies doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice!

My husband actually saw this documentary the other night on netflix and wants us to do the cleanse also. The only thing holding us back right now is the money. That is so expensive to do but we will do it in a few months. You can do it Josie<3
thanks for the letting us know it was on Netflix. I will be watching this tonight.
Josie. I just ordered my juicer from yesterdays post. I can’t wait to start. Do you have a list of recipes your following?? A friend of mine gave me a few but knowing myself unless I change it up often I will be bored and quit. Lol. a friend of mine told me she not only juiced but made smoothies with her juices. I thought that was a great idea since my kids love smoothies.
there are tons of recipes here: http://www.jointhereboot.com/index.php?lang=au
Hi Josie! Congratulations on deciding to better your health (and life!)! I am a health freak myself, so I totally side with you. I do 21 day liver/colon cleanses a few times a year. As a matter of fact I’m starting one next week. I don’t do juice cleanses. The ones I do use whole food supplements (I take them in a form of shakes) in addition to a raw food diet (veggies and fruit only) for at least a week (you can go raw all 3 weeks). Week 2 – I can add steamed veggies, week 3 – I can add 3oz of protein, and a small amount of brown rice/lentils and such. I’m not sure what I think of the juice diet, as I’ve never done one myself. I do think it can lower the calories significantly, which is a great thing if you want to loose weight. But it can also slow your metabolism. I don’t know if you are allowed to take any fats – I would strongly recommend flaxseed oil – during my cleanse I use 3 TB of it (I put it in my shakes). It not only provides you with very healthy fats, it also helps to suppress hunger. And of course – it will make your skin very soft, and hair shiny. Extra virgin olive oil is great too – I always use it with my salads (I gave up salad dressings long time ago). Coconut oil – AMAZING (and it’s on sale now at Sprouts!). Avocados: I eat them daily, and during a cleanse – I would have a few of them each day. Another important thing I would suggest it to use organic veggies and fruit as much as possible. I know they cost way more than the conventional ones, but it is so worth it. Especially veggies and fruits that don’t have skins to peel off (I don’t buy organic avocados, bananas etc. I do get only organic lettuce, strawberries etc). Oh – have your tried kale – it’s a vitamin bomb. And you can do so many things with eat – put in salads, mix with shakes, make kale chips…Anyway – GOOD LUCK, and GOOD HEALTH to you! You are going to feel great afterwards!
I start Kale Tonight for dinner. I’m nervous! I’ve heard it is very bitter.
It’s not that bad.
You can steam it a little bit, it won’t be as strong. But seriously – I don’t think it’s bad at all. Then again – the things I eat make others gag, so you never know. My taste buds may be different.
Good luck, let me know if you have any question. Oh – I have a GREAT recipe for a raw, green soup. It’s yummy, and so easy to make! Let me know if you would like me to share it with you.
I tried Kale for the first time last night– I baked the leaves to make Kale chips! The taste was a bit strong but I actually liked the Kale chips. My 8yr old niece said the chips tasted like McDonald’s french fries!
I got this quick and simple recipe from one of my FAVORITE shows called “Ten Dollar Dinners” http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/melissa-darabian/crispy-kale-chips-recipe/index.html
Thought I’d throw this out there
Good luck with your cleanse!
I LUV kale….i just made a kale bean soup last night! I dont think its bitter at all. good luck on your juice diet..iv heard alot about it! I too gained weight from post pardum depression and am now trying to get my health and body back.
My husband and I are SO going to do this with you. If he doesn’t stick to it I will be sure to
. I will start this coming Monday. I had PROMISED my mom&sisters a whole day (Saturday) out and I know we will be eating at a lot of new places. EXCITING!
I have my high school reunion (20 yrs) this summer and I need to shed 15 pounds. I’m tall so I can hide it well but I have been feeling tired and grouchy lately. I think this is a great time to join you on the juicing adventure, I have nothing to lose but fat. LOL
I will be joining you next week! Thanks for starting this, it has motivated me to start feeling better! Thanks can’t wait for an update.
Some juice recipes: http://blog.williams-sonoma.com/30-days-of-juicing

I would suggest reading this before you try a juice cleanse for 15 days.
Per Dr. Oz’s website – Many popular detox diets, especially those that involve extreme low-calorie fasting, can rob the body of important nutrients and place the body in starvation mode, which actually slows your metabolism. Other downsides of many detox diets include: dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, nausea and even colon damage
His site shows how to do a 48 cleanse the safe and healthy way.

at Liz this is not a cleanse. What your thinking of is something like the master cleanse. Where you drinking lemon water with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. And you are right those types of cleanses are not safe and can be damaging to our bodies. However what this reboot is is exactly the opposite if done correctly you allow tons of nutrients into your body by juicing a large amount of fruits and vegetables. More than you would be able to eat raw. Although you should check with your dr if you have health concerns this is one of the safest lifestyles around. Better than the processed foods most people consume daily!!
you’re so funny, for the link you wrote “Fat UGLY and nearly dead”, and it’s actually “Fat SICK and nearly dead”… but I’m feeling more ugly than I am sick so I like it better!
HAHAHA
What kind of juicer are you using? I don’t have one at all but I’ve been thinking of getting one. I don’t want it hugely expensive but I want to make it worth my while.
Juicing can be expensive. However, it doesn’t have to be. Find an Asian supermarket, you will find that the fruits and vegetables are much cheaper compares to Lucky’s Supermarket or Albertson!!
.
Way to go woman! Please keep us posted on how this goes… I feel alot of what u were describing and MUST do something to lose these extra pounds and feel better! Did u used to drink a lot of coffee in the a.m? No withdrawal??? That is one fear aside from fear of feelign hungry 24/7! Thanks for the great info!
I am inspired to join with you on 15day cleanse. thank you for the post.
you go, girl! that is amazing! i have juiced for the most 5 days – you inspire me. i also love “fat, sick & nearly dead.” i cleansed with blueprintcleanse – their jucies are sooo good and they deliver them to your door, so it made my cleanse delicious and easy – i was able to focus on the detoxing and not the labor of juicing. i highly recommend it for your next go around. regardless, check out theri website for juicing and cleansing tip – http://www.blueprintcleanse.com – they also have a 3-Day Cleanse book that talks about the benfits of juicing and has recipes.
Hi there, watched the documentary too. Like you I am feeling unhealthy, overweight and tired too. Bought a juicer but have been debating whether I need to do a week of preparation as in eating fruits and veg and cutting out all the bad stuff before I begin with the juice fast. Did you get straight into the juicing? Could you let me know, I would love to join you on your juice fast journey. Sounds like you are doing well. Very inspiring, keep up the good work
You said you would buy a juicer that would hold more juice. It sounds like the one you have is efficient for most people. What juicer would you get? Loved reading about your progress and struggles. Want to try this. Thanks for sharing.
