I’ve encountered many people who wonder why I coupon. The reason is simple. My three boys need me at home and with a husband that works 60 hours a week–they need their mom
Coupons help stretch our budget so I can stay at home.
We also took a recent journey into home ownership and coupons are helping us reach our goal
Why do you use coupons?

My Name is Josie and I live in sunny Southern California and I am a stay at home mom to three beautiful boys. We all know that living in California is a task of it's own and saving in California IS possible! I started this blog mainly to share all the awesome deals out there and show others how to save in any area of life. Even though you may make the commitment to be frugal and pinch your pennies doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice!
Stay at home mommy with three girls. Its my way of helping out the household.
OMG could ur boys be any cuter!! I for the same reason coupon to be able to stay hm with my 2 boys since my husband works 2 jobs and commutes from Inland Empire to Orange County he’s gone all day so my boys too need mama
I also grew up with a mom that has always used coupons also not to the extreme I do but she still used/uses them! Thanks to SCS I’ve got a decent stockpile on toiletries going and have saved so much $! I appreciate all u do Josie!!
Hey Kelly, sqme here. My hubby commetes from ie to oc and s away most part of the day.
I work from home, plus i do it because i feel great saving on things that i know my family use and I’m able to buy the extra things I like like clothes, shoes etc with the extra $$ I saved, one cashier told me once with a bad tone “If I would have the time I would do it too, but I don’t have time like all lazy stay @home mom” I reply well I’m not lazy I own a trucking company, a wife an a mother of 3 kids, if ur lazy that’s ur choice not mine, and she called another cashier to finish helping me lol but yes i love my coupons and I enjoy it
Wow! That cashier was soooo rude!
To have more money for me lol..my husband has a good job thanks to god and we dont suffer from money issues so all tje money we save I wanna put my own beautysalon so cpning is gona help me accomplish that dream
i use coupons to save money and bless others. Now we are saving to move out of state and every little penny helps. I cant imagine my life with out coupons. i have to admit that i get a high when I see that I saved more then I spent. its just cool!
I have 4 kids and I work 60 hours and my husband works 40 so stockpiling cheap makes sense.
I’m a work-at-home mom of a two 1/2 yr old boy. Dad has a helluva commute on top of insane hours. My reasons for starting to coupon are much different now a year later.
We are in the beginning process of buying a home and are realizing what a significant impact coupling has had on our down payment! WOWEE!
Josie, you have had a significant impact in my home and I truly appreciate everything you do.
Josie your boys are soooooo cute. I bet they are angels. I started couponing 9 months ago and I cant believe how much I save now on things I used to pay full price for. With the money I’m saving we are going to pay off our debt much faster. Thanks for what you do. I love your website!!!!
It’s the only way I can continue to be a stay at home mom, I have 2 boys one 2 years old and a 10 month old.
Josie ur oldest looks just like u!! They r adorable
I’ve always used coupons (learned from my mom back in the day!), but really started couponing a couple years ago. At the time we were saving to purchase our home, and were on a strict budget. After learning all our “tricks” (and with josie’s awesome match-ups!) I was able to cut back even more, with a pretty nice stockpile at the same time! We’ve been in our home for almost a year now and I still am able to stick to my strict budget (most of the time! Haha)
Hello Josie your boys are so cute! First of all I have to thank you for all that you do!! You are amazing!!!
I started couponing when Vons used to double $1 coupons to $2!!! (sigh… Those were the days… ) I was amazed at how cheap I was able to buy stuff that my family needed! I was hooked!! Why would anybody pay full price for stuff when you could get them free or almost free!! Anyway, the reason I coupon has always been to help my family, especially since my mom lost her job 3 years ago and has been unable to get another job. Again Thank You Josie.
As a full time college student, with only a weekend job (Sat & Sun), I moved back home with my mom, her husband and 2 stepkids. I can’t afford to help them out with the bills so in order to pull some weight around the house, since my mom and her husband have had cut in their work hours/pay, I decided to make it MY new years resolution to coupon. I started in January, I do goof up from time to time, but so far I have saved my family (of 5 now) tons of money and we’ve stocked up on so much toilet paper (and other basic toiletries) that I haven’t had to purchase toilet paper since January! LOL.
Thank you so much for all you do Josie, it definitely helps me help out my family, and thank you so much to the SCS community for being so amazing and friendly!
p.s. all my friends think i’m crazy for only being 23 and couponing! ha.
I’m 24 and all my friends think I’m
Crazy too!! Cheers to us young people who are saving rather than spending!!
I’m also 24 and I’m soooo proud of my stockpile…. but yeah ppl sometime don’t get it untill u show them an awesome receipt….lol
You are an awesome kid! It’s so nice that you coupon to contribute to your family. I bet your mom is so proud of you.
Kasi-most definitely cheers to us! Plus, it’s great to be able to save up some money to treat ourselves every so often to something nice.
Flakiz-i didnt think i would have a stockpile within 6 months of couponing but I do and I’m proud
congrats on your stockpile! Let’s keep up the good work.
Jenifer-thank you! I do definitely try my best to help around and i hope my mom is proud
Your boys are adoooorrrrable, josie! I love to coupon and your website helps make it so much easier! But seriously. Why not coupon? Why would I want to pay full price when I can get it for cheaper! Lol love u and ur site!
I’m 24 and all my friends think I’m
Crazy too!! Cheers to us young people who are saving rather than spending!!
I am a 30yo full-time nursing student, and my husband is an accomplished international pilot. He provides abundantly for both of us, but I don’t want to squander “our” money. For me, the best part of couponing is knowing how much things should cost — and then paying as close to that as possible. For the first time in my life, I feel in-control of the family finances.
Your boys are adorable! I’m a working, divorced mom, and quite frankly I coupon to help stretch my income. I just wish I could push myself to spend more time organizing, which is my biggest barrier to saving big money couponing. It’s hard to do my day time job, then come home and do my “real” job which is being a mom/housekeeper/chauffer and still have time to coupon.
I must say, my 15 year-old son does help me tremendously. He has no embarrassment about helping me track down the right items to match the coupons and has become an expert at picking the cheapest deal when we are at the store. I’m very proud of him!
He sounds sooo cool! Good job.
I was always wondering, “where the heck can I save money?” The prices for everything from car insurance to gas are crazy. When I started couponing a light bulb went off and the angels sang. It has helped me so much to put food and goodies on the table and I’m also able to donate items to the school my boys attend year round. I love finding discount items everywhere. $2 soccer balls, .10 cent rulers, etc. I also donate to people I know who can use it. Thank you Josie for helping me do this.
Very cute boys Josie !!!
I am a single mom to 2 awesome daughters and can barely make it.. Couponing has helped us so much No more struggling for groceries. THANKS to all your posts I am able to spend less time looking for the deals, YOU do all the hard work sista! And I am soooo grateful to have found you!
I just can’t believe I waited so long to start clipping!!
Thanks!!!
The two older boys have your eyes
I too am a single mom of an 11 year old. I coupon for a few different reasons. The first is to be able to give my daughter everything that she needs/wants without struggling to come up with the funds for it. The second is to teach my daughter the value of money and ways to save to be able to spend money on the things that we want. The third is to definitely give back to the community. I have been able to help out not only my family members (both my brothers have lost their jobs last year and have little ones to raise) but to help out total strangers with items that they may need. I have a good paying job, but had I started couponing as serious as I do now, I know that I could have saved so much more money than what I have already. Thank you Josie for all that you do and looking forward to seeing you and Kara again next weekend!
BECAUSE IT’S FRICKEN FUN!
Hahhaha, it is isn’t it….
I’m also a college student. I started couponing last summer and I don’t think I could ever stop. My family has always been towards the lower end of middle class but with coupons we can now afford more luxuries, like the Walmart Kindle deal back in Februray. I do get financial aid but it honestly isn’t enough to cover myself, the main expense being health insurance. I’ve also started couponing for my boyfriend’s family who live off of one income, and on top of our two families we still donate a large amount every few months.
I am a full time college students and have a small side job that can’t help me afford anything but a week worth of groceries. I have my parents and 5 other siblings to feed as that is part of my duty. So couponing can stretch a dollar a long way.
I started couponing for the DEAL!!! I am a stay at home mom too and I was bored and this kinda became my hobby
I started because I love a good deal and the thrill getting something for almost nothing (at times nothing!). I had also just finished a job and was looking for something else to fill my time and get ready for the birth of our first child. I loved being able to help my mom and sister score things they buy and use on a daily basis for cheap with coupons. Now our economic situation is changing again with me being a full-time stay-at-home mom and my hubby contemplating going into the police academy. We are having to really tighten up our budget and I’ve been able to turn to my stockpile to help save. Couponing has enabled us to save and splurge on things we don’t usually buy!
I’m a SAHM to a toddler with health issues, which equals big medical bills! Couponing has helped our budget tremendously. My husband commutes an hour each way, so the savings also helps with gas. Plus, who doesn’t love saving money?
Coz I’m a cheapskake, plain and simple
I’ve always used coupons, but sites like this one have taught me how to use them to stockpile, which means I go out shopping less often, which means I don’t spend the money I used to on impulse or convenience purchases. I think that is where I have really saved money. I can’t remember the last time I had to run to the store to pick up tp b/c we were on our last rolls. You know how that goes: need to buy tp, but while I’m here I’ll pick up some toothpaste or razors, regardless of the price, it’ll save me a trip later. Thank you.
Because I can! Seriously, I love a good deal and I can be a cheapskate. Like Maddie said, I’ve always used coupons, but this site really helps me connect the dots and locate more deals faster. I also think of myself as a helpful, generous person. So if I see a deal come up and I have a friend who loves that product, I’ll let them know. I also give things away to people who I know could use them.
What a great question, it really made me think to the core reason. I coupon for many reasons. My husband and I got married when while we were still in college and were blessed to get pregnant within the same year. I say blessed because the doctors said i would never be able to have my own children. Having a child changed everything. Couponing helps me stick to a LOW budget ($25 a week) and provide great food for my family. It helps me stay at home part time with my daughter because im truly soaking up something i never imagined happening to me in my life. And we are also able to give back, before couponing we could not afford to have people over for dinner. Now we give back to other college students and our church. Whenever a college student comes over we try to send them home with food because we know we they are living on pb&j
I try to teach other moms about couponing and it has been amazing. One mom stays at home because her son has special needs and was having a hard time with providing with a small budget for food, she has been so impacted by the savings she cried and now follows your site, even though her first language is Spanish! At the end of the year I use my samples and stockpile to fill stockings for my family and then donate the rest to the homeless. thank you so much Josie and you help change peoples lives.
I am a single mom of a 14 year old daughter. I have a decent paying job, but in this economy, I never know when that will end. I have paid off all of my credit card debt. I am now working on paying off my car and then my mortgage. I also help out friends that are struggling to feed their families and keep their homes. I guess I could say that I mainly do it for security.
Good job on paying off the credit card debt!
Thanks. It is an amazing feeling. My friend told me that she was able to pay off a card within months of starting to coupon but I didn’t believe her, but it was true!!
I started couponing because I temporarily stopped working and I wanted to save money. That was 13 months ago. Since then I’ve realized that by saving money with couponing and budgeting, I can stay home with my kids that are 16 & 13. Most of my friends stayed home with their little ones while I worked. Now a lot of them are back at work and I’m home making sure they study, stay away from the wrong kids, stay away from drugs, helping them get to their sports activities, etc… I’m so thankful people like you, Josie, help make being a full time mom a possibility! I know it is changing my kids lives forever.
Just wanted to say thank you for all you do Josie. I wouldn’t have my stockpile or coupons smarts if it wasn’t for your website and your hard work. And your boys are very cute!
I coupon because I’m cheap and hate spending money on something I know should be free or really cheap. I also enjoy it because its fun to get a great deal or even better free! I also coupon because my husband stays at home with our son, so we are on one income which I want to stretch as far as possible, especially with us recently buying our first home. It helps us put more money into savings or towards our mortgage versus spending it on groceries. Before couponing, I tried to cut my grocery budget but I was still shopping one big trip a weekend and was spending at least $150 on groceries for 2 adults and a baby every week. Now I’m down to $200 a month. Thank you for all your help!
I coupon for a lot of reasons. 1) I’ve always been a cheapskate and wouldn’t buy things that weren’t on sale. 2) I have an unstable job, and luckily my boyfriend is able to help out with our expenses when I need, so this is my way of contributing. 3) I get to help out my sister and the 4 kids she’s raising. (Thank you Juicy Juice and cereal deals recently!) 4) it helps me bond with my boyfriend’s mom a little more when I get to share a deal with her, especially since she so graciously gives me her coupons every week. 5) Why not?! I refuse to pay full price for anything when I know I can get a cheap deal!
Thank you for everything you do for us Josie. Because of all your hard work, I feel comfortable planning trips this summer for my boyfriend and I and can enjoy them without stressing (too much) about money. When I started couponing a year ago, I had no idea how I was going to pay for any of my bills, my rent, my car, gas, and food. This has changed my life, my boyfriend’s life, my family and friends lives. Thank you again!!
:0)
My husband and I both work, and we have 2 sons (4 and 19mos), I haven’t been able to be a full stay at home mom, but I don’t work 40 hours a week either, and this allows some flexibility in our budget to do other fun stuff, like Disneyland Passes or family vacations, and giving my children super awesome birthday parties. Its amazing on how much food you can get with coupons for the party and you end up saving 60-70% on what it would have normally cost.
Cute kids!! I am so proud of all you young mothers who are couponing and saving!! I am a retired older person who found the blessing of couponing about 2 years ago. I try to get others interested, especially the younger families, but so far no luck. We have a nice emergency stockpile if something bad happens in this crazy world, we can survive and bless others. I buy favorites for my friends, always have items ready to donate when a quick blessing is needed for someone, mostly people we do not even know. Also, it is nice to not have to run to the store to complete a meal, I have most of what I need in my pantry now!!
I work full-time and am mommy to a 2 yr old and 1 yr old, and everyday is struggle. It’s hard to make it, and no matter how hard it is at times, with couponing I ALWAYS have food on my table. I’m trying so hard to make ends meet. I might not always have money to pay my bills…but my fridge is ALWAYS stocked. Everything else is just material stuff, but if we don’t have food, we don’t have anything. It’s means so much to me that you, Josie, take the time to show us the deals. And it means a lot to me when everyone else posts things too, like diaper deals. I only had one dollar to my name but using ECB I was able to buy diapers for my babies the other day. Thank you and everyone else here at SCS.
BTW, you have a beautiful family. Let’s keep saving girls (and guys)!!!!
My heart goes out to you, Newbie! I wish you the best of luck. What an awesome job you are doing for your kids, and what an excellent example you are setting. You should be proud of yourself.
I really don’t need to cut coupons. I just do it because it’s fun and very addicting. Walking out of the store with $50 worth of groceries and ended up paying only $9 BUCKS! It’s a thrill just to see how much I can SAVE!
By the way, your 3 boys are just too adorable! Too, too cute!
Keep up the good work w/ your blog Josie! Thanks for all you do!!!
Family, family, family. Although I am retired and doing fine, most of my family have been hit hard. Four grandchildren just out of high school, only one of which has been able to get a job (part time) and a granddaughter with a college degree working outside of her field and not at the salary she hoped for when she started. I coupon for them The little bit of food and sundries I can provide to them helps them tremendously. Coupons allows me to stretch the money I can use for this purpose further. Hooray for couponing! And thank you, Josie. You are my go-to site.
I LOVE IT! What a great picture, your boys are so adorable! Thank you.
ur kids r so adorable…r they mixed??? well i use coupons bcuz it helps out alot!!!! my husband just lost his job a few months ago where he was makn 150 a day sumtimes more!!! n he couldnt find a job n we lost our place n we hav 5 kids….so we had to go stay wit my sister til he could get on our feet n then we found a pl of our own n right when we moved in the job he had just got went under so again we were about to b homeless n i couldnt ask my sister for a pl to stay again…so couponing has come in very handy now that he found a job…he doesnt mak much sumtimes just $40 bucks a day n only wrks 3 days so we r on a very tight budget…i just wish i wouldve learned all this when he was earning $150 a day lol we wouldnt hav lost our pl n we couldve saved a whole lot of money….so thanks to coupons n to you for helpn us save n afford our pl and feed n provide for our 5 kids!!!
Cute kids!
I coupon b/c when we started to have kids, I went to half-pay. I now work full-time from home, but still earn half-pay, but do it b/c of the flexibility and ability to be home with our youngest. Couponing makes the ends meet on our limited income (and it’s addicting!!!)
They are so totally cute!! I started couponing as a fun hobby since both my hubby and I work. A friend turned me onto it and I’m glad she did because that hobby has now become a necessity ever since the hubs thought it was a grand idea to trade in for a brand new jeep at over twice the payment (we had equity on the trade in too!!)…men!
