Help a Local Donation Organization send items to Soldiers Overseas!

I received an email for Ashleigh who works with the American Military Partner Association  has a desperate plea:

Hi Josie! My name is Ashleigh Janson, I am a military wife living in San Diego. I work with an organization who sends carepackage to deployed soldiers. I’m writing you with a desperate plea. We have a list of about 40 soldiers requesting care packages from our organization. Donations are almost nonexistent right now, and we are desperate. At this point we are only able to fill about 15 boxes. It breaks my heart to think that some of our soldiers won’t get a package. Is there any way you and your fellow couponers can help us?

As a most of you know– I stand behind giving back to the community –so here is a chance for you to give back for a cause! If you are in the  San Diego area and have items that you would like to donate there will be a Donation pick up at the following location:

Monday July 16th from 12-3pm at Walmart in San Diego
3382 Murphy Canyon Rd
San Diego, CA 92123
Also, Ashleigh often visits the Temecula area and is willing to pick up items if you live close. You can email her at Ashleigh.janson (at) yahoo (dot) com

I had an employee that was/is a reservist, when he was deployed we used to send him all kinds of items to share with his fellow soldiers. Besides the soaps and snack foods, we would include cards (like Old Maid), plastic rings, travel games, plastic snakes and spiders, old DVDs and really anything else that we could gather that might get a good laugh. I think that he really appreciated it. :)

Thank you for sharing this. I am also a military wife and sister. I would be so grateful to anyone who took the time to give to our men and women overseas. A little goes a long way when you are far from home and family.

I e-mailed her, if she comes up Hwy 15 I can met her at the mall in Escondido with a bunch of my couponing treasures! I did this at my church for awhile, but people quit giving after awhile, and I was the only buying stuff for them. This was before couponing so I was spending a lot of money back then!! I can give so much now that I coupon and get great deals on things!!! Thanks to your website Josie!!

Karen, where in Temecula are you? With my work and school schedules being so crazy, I will not have time to drive all the way down to San Diego or even Escondido. I was wondering if I can meet up with you and give you my donations and you can add them to your stack when you give them to Ashleigh? Being a fellow military wife, I feel strongly about donating to the troops. If anyone else could help me out, it would be appreciated. I can be emailed at MBaker7 (at) ymail (dot) com

Here is the site that I’ve used to donate. You can pick a base or just send them in and they will choose one for you.I think the cutoff limit is 6 months past expiration, but you also have to factor in the time it takes for the volunteers to sort and distribute. I try to send them in once a month so that by the time the volunteers sort them it gets to the military recipients in time. http://www.ocpnet.org/

Ashleigh, have you contacted local radio stations? They’re always promoting programs that support the troops and it’s a great (and free!) way to get the message out there. I know KGB (101.5 FM) is a good local station to contact (570-1015) and I’m sure they’ll help get the word out. Just give them a list of items needed, the date, location, and contact information.
