Believe it or not–there are tons of ways to cut down your cable bill. Sometimes when you feel a pinch in your budget, you start to cut down on the things that aren’t “mandatory”. The great thing is that you can cut down and not even feel a difference. The average american family spends $1500 per year on cable expenses– imagine what that $1500 could do for you?!
Don’t let the cable tell you how much to spend. Take control and cut down a little. Besides, the idea is to save money.. and frankly, cable is not going to feed you
Here are some tips to saving on cable and some easy and affordable alternatives.

My Name is Josie and I live in sunny Southern California and I am a stay at home mom to three beautiful boys. We all know that living in California is a task of it's own and saving in California IS possible! I started this blog mainly to share all the awesome deals out there and show others how to save in any area of life. Even though you may make the commitment to be frugal and pinch your pennies doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice!
The only reason we still have cable is that my husband doesn’t want to get rid of ESPN. I have to idea how Roku or any of those work….will any of these be able to just give us ESPN channels? I’d love to eliminate cable!
you should check with your internet provider…. ours (ATT) offers the ESPN website access that lets you watch ALL shows except boxing on the computer. all you need is an HDMI cable to hook the computer to the tv.
we have had to cut cable out completely over the last few mths. we now have hulu plus and netflix. My Fiance is a sports Center addict and watches online thru his mothers account. We have one mac laptop that we didnt really use before and we were considering selling and now we use it with a cable in our room for the internet services. We have a PS3 in our living room and my step daughter has the desktop computer in her room that she watches on. One thing we love about it is we find ourselves watching WAY LESS TV and spending more time talking or reading or playing games. Also no DVR space to worry about. And what we can’t find on Hulu we mostly either dont miss or find online on the networks websites if we HAVE to see it. Its freed up our budget up a lot and gave us some much needed breathing room when we most needed it!
there are also televisions that have wifi capabilities so netflix, hulu, pandora and amazon can all be streamed directly to it. The tvs with wifi enabled are about 50 dollars more which is very worth it when you take into consideration HDMI cables and roku devices.
My husband likes a few shows on HBO and likes to be current on them (since they talk about them at work, I believe). Any cheaper way around that one???
This was a very interesting comment. I’m going to do a bit more research on this. Cable has absolutely gotten way too expensive for providing so little in return. Thanks for this comment.
